Forum Anders Reisen, a travel agency based in Freiburg, Germany, that specializes in ecologically-friendly tourism (49-761-1377-6888; forumandersreisen.de), is offering two 109-day group cycling tours that begin in mid-June - one in the north, another in the south - that will meet each other in Berlin on Oct. 3, German Unity Day. The cost is 11,690 euros from the north (about $16,250 at $1.39 to the euro) and 10,590 euros from the south. The price includes accommodations and all meals, a tour guide and a custom-made Koga-Miyata trekking bike.
The Iron Curtain Trail, as it has been dubbed, was the brainchild of Michael Cramer, a German member of the European Parliament, who has said he was inspired by a trip toBoston in 1998, and a walk along that city's Freedom Trail. He convinced the parliament that a similar concept could work in Europe, marking various sites tied to the fall of communism".
